Always on the hunt for the road less travelled, I'm always thrilled when an album like Chancletas D'Oro lands in my lap. The latest from Xuxa Santamaria, the record is a self-described loose concept album exploring femme narratives from history and from works of fiction. The result is a very complete sophomore LP that delivers not only quality, but inventive writing as well. In other words, you're not going to get this experience anywhere else, and that's what I couldn't be more excited to share it with you today.
If you're looking for depth, complex songwriting, and an artist who has truly honed their art, you can stop your search now. Chancletas D'Oro is truly a complete album, and I mean deserted island and this is the only record you're going to have to listen to for years kind of good. From absolutely enchanting vocals, to synth hooks that refuse to let you go, and bright harmonies that speak to the soul, Xuxa Santamaria has shown a deft hand that you usually only find in an act who has a dozen albums under their belt. Blending an almost pop sense of appeal with the edge of mystery you'd only get exploring some unknown and exotic land, Chancletas D'Oro is hands down one of the best things I've heard come out of my speakers in ages.
Trying to put labels on this record would be a futile attempt to pigeonhole the amazing experience you're going to find within, so I'm not going to even bother. It's a timeless record that should appeal to anyone that likes their music served up outside of the prepackaged nonsense that dominates the airwaves. Even better, you can grab this on limited edition vinyl thanks to Ratskin Records over at Bandcamp for a crazy low price. Get on it!
