Retroglyphs / Angel Eyes

Angel Eyes by Retroglyphs would sound great whether it was released in 1989, 1999, 2009, or 2019. Need I say more?...

Seeing as how I'm a huge fan of Retroglyphs, I'd say it's darn near criminal that I haven't covered their latest release, Angel Eyes. Well, I'm fixing that right here and right now! If this is your introduction to Retroglyphs, I envy your first experience! This is no thrown together outfit...on the contrary, this is a group of very talented musicians with a solid live pedigree. Add on top of that some of the best songwriting you're going to find out there and you've got the recipe for something very, very special.

Angel Eyes is a five track collection of what I can only call the Retroglyph Sound. I'd say they're unique enough to warrant their own "sound." It's a blend of synthpop, shoegazy dream pop, and a taste of nostalgia, but nothing heavy handed. In fact, these songs exist in a bit of a timeless bubble of their own creation. They'd be great in 1989, 1999, 2009, or 2019. That's when you know you've stuck gold...when your tracks have a timeless appeal that crosses over all sorts of genre lines. My wife loves Retroglyphs and she famously dislikes almost everything I cover (it's literally her only flaw). If that's not endorsement enough, you obviously don't know how short that list is, haha! All jokes aside, I can't recommend this band higher. They write heartfelt music, wear said hearts on their sleeves, and it overflows into your speakers with every press of the play button.

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that Angel Eyes is available on limited edition cd, and what's more, it has exclusive bonus tracks! Score! You can find it HERE!
