The long wait is finally over...the debut album from Ollie Wride is here, and boy was it worth the wait! I can't even imagine the immense pressure involved in a record as hotly anticipated as this one. The fact that one could argue that Ollie Wride is the voice of synthwave and few would dispute that fact is proof enough that a whole lot was riding on Thanks in Advance. Not only only has he stepped out of the spotlight he's shared with other artists, Ollie Wride has proven that his light shines just as bright on his own.
I don't bandy around with terms like perfection very often, but Thanks in Advance comes darn near close. This is synth based pop at its very best and I'm hard pressed to find a fault in its 39 minute running time. Every track is so nuanced, so well produced, and deliberate, it's immediately obvious that a lot of blood, sweat, tears, and more than anything, a love for the music, went into the creation of this record. Ollie Wride and co-producer Michael Oakley deserve a huge pat on the back for how seamlessly Thanks in Advance flows through your speakers.
Whether you're looking for songs that lean toward inward contemplation, emotional ballads, pure dancefloor body movers, or AAA radio ready singles, Ollie Wride serves up the goods. Don't even get me started on trying to classify Thanks in Advance into a musical niche. These tracks are timeless and honestly could have been released anywhere in the last 35 to 40 years. That's the honest to goodness magic tapped into here. Great music defies categories because it breaks down those walls...it appeals to everyone without sacrificing its soul, and believe me, there's soul to be found in every one of these tracks.
It goes without saying that Ollie Wride's debut, Thanks in Advance, is a certifiable must own album. There are countless fans who were drawn to synthwave because of his voice, but Wride shows he's no slouch in the songwriting department either. This is an artist on a meteoric arc through the atmosphere with no signs of slowing down or coming back down to Earth.
